2022-2023
During the 2022/2023 term, The Nine provided documents on the following topics to the Director-General:
- Internal Communication: we shared with the Director-General CERNs’ senior-staff insight on the meeting formats and scope of recent public and restricted meetings organized by the directorate. We summarised possible ideas in further centralizing, and in this sense facilitating the access to, official communication and relevant key information.
- CERN activities towards society: The Nine shared with the DG two documents on how to explore the interfaces between CERN and society: to identify common areas, find themes/solutions for the benefit of all, and suggested improvements on how to work in a collaborative and fruitful way, while addressing critical points regarding the processes in place to achieve CERN’s mission.
- Work Atmosphere: We summarised and elaborated further on the topics frequently mentioned by our senior-staff colleagues in our discussions and interviews, in particular on CERN’s work atmosphere and keeping the attractiveness of our laboratory. These topics included flexibility and agility in our positions, as well as the opportunities for further developing skills and responsibilities.
- Job Interviews: Since the pandemic a number of adjustments were introduced to the hiring process at CERN. The Nine collected and communicated suggestions to improve the process, in particular the panel interview.
- What works well: In this communication to the DG, we gave credit to the positive aspects mentioned by our colleagues during our discussions with them, which fall naturally into the core CERN objectives. Examples provided underline why our staff is proud to work for CERN and what motivates them.
